Legendary wrestler John Cena is set to make another return to WWE next month. Sources close to the wrestling promotion confirmed on Monday that the former world champion will appear on the first episode of the new SmackDown edition, which will take place on September 1 at The Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Cena also confirmed that he will be travelling to India for the WWE Superstar Spectacle, a live event on September 8.

The event, which will be held at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, will be the first in India since 2007 and the first-ever in the Telangana capital. However, it will not be televised in the United States. The 16-time world champion confirmed his WWE return on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Cannot wait to reunite with the WWE family live on Smackdown! Especially excited to meet the WWE Universe in India and wrestle for the first time ever in India. The time is now. C U all very soon! WWE, WWE India,” the 46-year-old tweeted.

Cena made his last appearance at a WWE event during Money in the Bank at The O2 Arena in July this year, much to the surprise of his fans. The Barbie actor was part of WrestleMania 39 in April, where he challenged Austin Theory for the United States Championship. He was in control for most of the match but was eventually defeated after receiving a low-blow from the Theory.

I wish I was still there every day: John Cena

Cena holds the most World Championship Reigns in WWE history and is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. However, in recent years the American has not been a regular part of the wrestling promotion. While reminiscing about his WWE career during an interaction with Busted Open Radio, Cena said he misses being a part of the promotion.

“Man, I wish I was still there every day. I just can't. My body can't do it anymore and I don't want to give the consumer a bad product. That's a thing that I learned from those veterans at that time. Guys like Eddie just would risk so much. He's like, 'I'm never gonna give the consumer a bad product. I don't care how I feel. I don't care how I feel physically, I don't care what baggage I have mentally. When I'm on, they paid good money and I'm gonna go out there and give everything I have and sometimes find it when it's not there,'" he said.
