Colin De Grandhomme has played an important role in New Zealand’s success in Test cricket. Some of his best spells in Test cricket are as follow:
New Zealand v England, 2018
In the 2018 Christchurch Test, New Zealand had a 1-0 lead against England. The Kiwis needed to avoid defeat in that Test to register a clear victory.
Kane Williamson won the toss and invited the English team to bat first. England had put 307 runs on board with Johnny Bairstow scoring 103 runs. But, during the chase, New Zealand was down to 36-5.
It was at that crucial moment, Colin De Grandhomme partnered with BJ Watling to help New Zealand win. They had put up 142 runs for the sixth wicket and Grandhomme scored 151 off 72 balls. Thereby, the Kiwis could finish with 278 runs which were just 29 runs behind England’s total.
Moreover, De Grandhomme followed up his rescue act and took four wickets for just 94 runs on the next innings. The Blackcaps had to chase a target of 382 runs in the second innings. But the Kiwis were down to 162-6 with a little over one session left.
De Grandhomme rescued the team once again and put 95 runs on board with Ish Sodhi. It helped New Zealand draw the match and win the series.
New Zealand v Pakistan, 2016
In his Test career, De Grandhomme has been named player of the match just once. It was in his debut Test match for the Kiwis against Pakistan in 2016.
De Grandhomme got his first taste of playing in Test cricket at the age of 30. He ran through the batting lineup of Pakistan and returned figures of 6-44 in the first innings. Moreover, he followed up his bowling performance with a quick 37 runs off 29 balls including six boundaries.
In the second innings as well, De Grandhomme picked up one more wicket. But he was not required to bat as New Zealand won by eight wickets.
Thereby, his first innings of 6-41 are the best-registered record of any New Zealand player in debut Test.
