The veteran batter Rohit Sharma is set to lead Team India once again in the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue will play under his captaincy in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is to be hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Earlier, Team India won the Asia Cup 2018 under Rohit’s captaincy.

Meanwhile, he is the only skipper, alongside former Indian skipper MS Dhoni to score 300+ runs in any single edition of this continental championship. Dhoni is the highest run-scorer as captain in any single edition of the tournament (327 runs) followed by the current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (317 runs).

The 42-year-old was leading the Indian side for the first time 15 years back in the Asia Cup 2008, when he scored 327 runs in 5 innings with an impressive average of 109, including 2 half-centuries and a century to his name. He batted for India in the lower middle order for Team India in the Asia Cup 2008. He scored his best knock against Hong Kong in a league match when scored an unbeaten knock of 109 runs.

Dhoni was the leading run-scorer as captain in that edition of the tournament followed by Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik.

Being the leading run-scorer as captain during the 2018 edition, he was also the second leading run-scorer in the tournament following the veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 342 runs in 5 innings, with an average of 68.40, including two centuries.

Notably, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni are still the only two captains in the history of the Asia Cup to score most runs as skipper in a single edition of the tournament.
