The 42-year-old was leading the Indian side for the first time 15 years back in the Asia Cup 2008, when he scored 327 runs in 5 innings with an impressive average of 109, including 2 half-centuries and a century to his name. He batted for India in the lower middle order for Team India in the Asia Cup 2008. He scored his best knock against Hong Kong in a league match when scored an unbeaten knock of 109 runs.

Dhoni was the leading run-scorer as captain in that edition of the tournament followed by Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik.
