Starting from 2008, IPL has become one of the most valuable sports tournaments worldwide. The Indian cricket team selects many talented young players from the IPL. Since the youngsters learn to handle pressure during the league, they do not struggle at the international level.

Earlier, top performers from domestic cricket were considered for the national team. But the rules have changed with time and preference has shifted towards the IPL. It is because of the high level of skill the players need to have to perform well in the league. Thereby, uncapped players who perform consistently in the IPL can also get selected for the Indian cricket team.

Of late, USA cricket has started recruiting players from other nations. Players like Corey Anderson and Sami Aslam have joined the USA. Some Indian domestic cricketers have also changed sides and moved to the United States for a new cricketing journey. Three such players are as follow:

Sunny Sohal

33-year-old Sunny Sohal is a top-order batsman who has played three T20 internationals for the United States. He was born in Mohali, Punjab, and made his first debut for Punjab in 2005 against Hyderabad. He represented Punjab in all three formats of cricket and got an IPL contract from Punjab Kings. Later, in his career, Sohal played for the Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Although Sohal aggregated more than 12000 runs in the first-class arena, he could not make it big in Indian cricket. He never got selected for the Indian Team. Thereby, he sought greener pastures and moved to the USA.

Smith Patel

Wicketkeeper-batman Smith Patel was an India U-19 player who has now moved to the United States. In the 2012 World Cup final, he had scored the winning runs for India.

At that time, it seemed like India had got one more wicketkeeper-batsman who could finish off the innings. In the domestic circuit, Patel represented Gujrat, Baroda, Goa, and Tripura. He scored more than 5000 runs across all three formats. But Patel never managed to get an IPL contract or a selection in the Indian senior squad.

Thereby, he decided to move to the United States and play there. He would play for the Barbados Trident’s jersey in the upcoming CPL season.
