20-20 World Cup 2022: 5 Records Shattered By Virat Kohli During India-Pakistan Clash

On 23 October 2022, India took on Pakistan in Melbourne in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. In 2021, India lost to the Men in Green by 10 wickets. So, players and fans were waiting to see them in action with better performances. While batting first, Pakistan scored 159 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs.

In reply, Indian batters were clueless at the top order. But, Virat Kohli showed his class once again as he scored 82* runs off 53 balls, at a strike rate of 154.71. He hit four sixes and six fours throughout his innings. However, Virat Kohli managed several records after playing the match-winning knock at the MCG.

The former Indian skipper has always been in the race to become the highest run-scorer in T20Is. Now, after his match-winning knock against Pakistan, Virat Kohli is now the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals. Kohli has now scored 3794 runs in 110 matches at an average of a whopping 51.97.

He has smashed these runs at a strike rate of 138.41. Rohit Sharma is in the second spot with 3741 runs, at an average of 31.70 in 143 matches. The Kiwi batter, Martin Guptill is in the third spot. He has scored 3531 runs in 122 matches, at an average of 31.81. Meanwhile, Guptill has scored those runs at a strike rate of 135.70.

Virat Kohli managed to win the player of the match award in this match for his match-winning knock. However, with this award, he has the most number of players in the match award in T20 Internationals. This was his 14th player of the match award in T20Is. Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi is in the second spot with 13 player of the match awards.

As of now, Mohammad Nabi has played 102 T20I matches for his country. Such achievement proved how consistent Virat Kohli has been in the shortest format of the game. He has come up with some terrific performances over the years for India in this format of the game.

The former Indian skipper has now the most number of player of the match award in the 20-20 World Cup. At a big stage like the World Cup, Virat Kohli has proven his caliber for his country several times. Meanwhile, he has six player of the match awards compared to others after the innings against Pakistan. 

Previously, he was joint highest along with Mahela Jayawardene, Shane Watson, and Chris Gayle. All these players have managed this award five times in their careers in the 20-20 World Cup. After the innings against Pakistan, Virat is now also at the top of this feat as he will look to add more in the upcoming matches of the ongoing World Cup.

Virat Kohli added 82* runs to his overall tally of runs in the shortest format of the game after this knock against the Men in Green. However, these runs helped Kohli to reach 927 runs in all editions of the 20-20 World Cup so far. Behind him, Rohit Sharma is in the second spot with 851 runs in the mega tournament.

In a fierce competition like the 20-20 World Cup, Virat has been always the man to go ahead of others. This amount of runs only shows how consistent Virat has been in recent years. However, being in the shortest format of the game, Virat has always come up with some crazy knocks for his fans.

Virat Kohli scored 82* runs off 53 balls while chasing the target of 160 runs at the MCG. Thus, he managed to add another fifty-plus score to his tally. Meanwhile, it was Kohli’s fifth fifty against the arch-rival. However, four of them came out on the bigger stage. 

Now, the Former skipper is the joint most fifty-plus scores for any player against an opponent in the World Cup. He is currently equaling the record held by West Indies’ Chris Gayle. He has four fifties against Australia in the tournament.
