On 17 October 2022, team India took on Australia in a warm-up match at Gabba, Brisbane. After two warm-up games against Western Australia, India came to this encounter for better preparations. On the other hand, Australia came after losing a home T20I series against England. So, both teams were looking for better preparation ahead of their respective tournament openers.

However, India again went with the veteran keeper, Dinesh Karthik in the playing line-up instead of Rishabh Pant. But, fans become worried as some disturbing images of Pant went viral during the match. Seeing those images, fans started guessing whether the young wicket-keeper batter is injured or not.

Rishabh Pant looked out of favour in recent T20I matches for India

During the match, Rishabh Pant was seen sitting in the dugout along with Mohammed Shami and Moeen Ali. England’s off-spinner was talking with the veteran pacer while Shami pointed at Pant. It seemed like there was a heavy strapping and ice pack on his right knee. So, such images left the fans all guessing over his condition ahead of the 20-20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, in recent T20I matches, Rishabh Pant did not have much game time. India have shown more faith in Dinesh Karthik over Pant in the shortest format of the game. Even, Pant has failed to deliver his best in the T20 format unlike ODI, and Test formats. However, he played two warm-up matches against Western Australia in Perth.

In the first match, he scored nine runs off 16 balls while in the second match, he scored nine runs off 11 balls. Speaking of the warm-up match, India batted first and scored 186 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Aussies got bundled out for 180 runs in 20 overs. Both KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored the fifties in the match. Mohammed Shami also took three wickets for four runs in just one over. Now, before the tournament opener against Pakistan, they will face New Zealand on 19 October in Brisbane in another warm-up match.
