West Indies and Bangladesh are the only teams from Group A to have not registered victories in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. One team can get a chance to change that trend as the teams are set to cross swords on Friday (October 29) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Defending champions from the 2016 edition have looked a pale shadow during the showpiece event.
Their batters have not enjoyed batting on the low and slow UAE pitches. The likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Kieron Pollard like the ball coming onto the bat. Lendl Simmons took almost six overs to score 35 runs and that resulted in the team scoring a below-par total against South Africa. West Indies cannot afford such a display against Bangladesh if they have to stand a chance of defending the title.
Bangladesh’s story has also been pretty similar. The batting has proved to be an Achilles heel, with the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Naim, and Shakib-al-Hasan failing to score collectively. Shakib has looked deadly with the ball but has not scored enough runs. Against England, the batters failed to get going and the bowlers failed to stop rampaging Jason Roy.
Pitch Report
The match is going to be played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Run-scoring has been tricky of late on this pitch. The average first inning score is 140.
