Defending Champions West Indies need a big win to stay alive in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. Billed as favourites by experts before the showpiece event, the mighty West Indian team now faces the arduous task of making it to the semis.
Two big losses against England and South Africa have not helped the cause. Currently, the Caribbean team are placed fifth on the points table. England have already qualified with eight points and South Africa are comfortably placed second on the points table with six points. West Indies have two games left in the competition and if they can beat Sri Lanka and Australia, they can have a chance.
The big guns Pollard, Gayle, and Nicholas Pooran have failed to fire which has hurt the team. The task against Sri Lanka will be stiffer because they will have to face leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. The all-rounder has been phenomenal so far and has taken 14 wickets in just seven games. Top teams like England and South Africa have also struggled against him thus West Indies can’t afford to take him lightly.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are out of the competition having lost three of their four games. They'd like to finish the tournament on a high.
Pitch Conditions
The wicket will be on the slower side and the spinners will get a lot of help. It will be easier to chase because of the dew.
