Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has backed India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal to replace Ishan Kishan in the second T20I against West Indies. Notably, Jaiswal stunned everyone with his amazing debut in international cricket during the two-match Test series against West Indies.

Meanwhile, Kishan was not much impressive with the bat during the first T20I of the five-match series against West Indies. Jaffer also questioned Ishan Kisan’s current batting form in the shortest format of the game. However, he did not fail to praise Kishan for his performance in ODIs but suggested dropping him from the T20I playing XI.

“I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause for concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season,” said Jaffer to ESPNCricinfo.

“Why not give an opportunity to the boy who played very well in the IPL? He won the emerging player award and is confident. I’ll definitely look towards that change,” he added.

India and West Indies will lock horns in the second T20I of the five-match series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday. The visitors are trailing by 0-1 in the series after losing the first T20I by 4 runs. Now, Team India will be eyeing to level the series and gain the winning momentum, On the other hand, the Caribbean side will look to continue their winning touch after a win in the series opener.

Coming back to Jaffer’s suggestion of including Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan drew a lot of different opinions on social media. Some cricket fans took to Twitter and talked about the lack of consistency in the opening pair of Team India for the last couple of matches.
