The RCB batting lineup looked quite shaky against SRH in IPL 2021. Devdutt Padikkal did not have the best start in IPL 2021. In his 1st match for RCB this year, Padikkal amassed only 11 runs in 13 balls. RCB skipper Virat Kohli put up a decent knock of 33. However, Shahbaz Ahmed failed to deliver with the bat. Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell looked the most promising batsman for RCB against SRH. Maxwell’s knock of 59 helped RCB post 149 on the board. Thanks to the RCB bowlers, RCB managed a victory over SRH. That said, here are 3 mistakes conceded by RCB’s batting lineup against SRH in IPL 2021:
3. RCB’s no 3 issue needs to be resolved
In their 1st match of IPL 2021, RCB played Rajat Patidar at the no 3 spot. However, Patidar failed to impress at the no 3 spots. Hence, RCB opted for Shahbaz Ahmed at the no 3 spot against SRH. Even though Ahmed bowled brilliantly, he did not impress batting at the no. 3 spots. Ahmed amassed just 14 runs in 10 balls before he was dismissed by Shahbaz Nadeem. One way the no 3 conundrum could be resolved could be by playing Glenn Maxwell at the no 3 spot. Maxwell has been RCB’s most consistent batsman in the IPL 2021 to date. Slotting Maxwell at no 3 could spark a better batting performance from the RCB side in the upcoming matches.
2. Carelessly losing wickets instead of taking advantage of the opportunity
Another reason why RCB’s batting lineup flustered was because of their bad decision-making. Instead of playing smart cricket, players such as Ahmed, Padikkal, and Washington Sundar tried to smash the ball out of the park and lost their wickets. This clearly did not work out in RCB’s favor. However, some sensible batting by Glenn Maxwell ensured that RCB could post a fighting total on the board.
1. RCB’s overdependence on AB de Villiers
Even though AB de Villiers is one of the best finishers in the T20 format, one cannot expect him to deliver every single time. This has been a problem with the RCB batting lineup for a long time. When Kohli and Ahmed were dismissed, it was up to de Villiers to give RCB a fighting chance. However, this time, de Villiers got out for just 1 run. RCB will expect its openers to give them a good start in the upcoming matches of the season.
