In 35 overs, Ashwin scalped 6 wickets for India, conceding only 132 runs in total. In the end, India won the 1st Test of the series by a margin of 197 runs.

R Ashwin played his 1st Test match against NZ in 2012. In the 1st Test of The Test series, Ashwin exerted his dominance on the NZ batsman. Batting first, India posted a total of 438 on the board. However, India restricted the Kiwis to just 153, winning the match by a huge margin of 321 runs. Ashwin ran riot against NZ’s batsmen, scalping 7 wickets in just 14 overs. For his brilliant bowling performance in the 3rd Test, Ashwin won the Player of the Match award.
