R Ashwin has been India’s most successful bowler in the Test format for quite some time. The Tamil Nadu bowler has produced some match-winning performances for India in the Test format on several occasions. In his Test career, Ashwin has played 79 Tests for India. In 79 Tests, Ashwin has scalped an impressive 409 wickets. India and New Zealand will lock horns in the ICC World Test Championship final in June 2021. That said, here are the 3 best bowling spells by R Ashwin against New Zealand in his Test career:

3. 6/132 (Green Park, 2016)

Ashwin performed brilliantly with the ball in the Test series between India and New Zealand in 2016. In the 1st Test of the series, NZ needed to chase 434 runs to win the match. However, the Kiwis managed to muster only 236 runs in total. R Ashwin was the chief architect behind New Zealand’s downfall. In 35 overs, Ashwin scalped 6 wickets for India, conceding only 132 runs in total. In the end, India won the 1st Test of the series by a margin of 197 runs.

2. 6/31 (Hyderabad, 2012)

R Ashwin played his 1st Test match against NZ in 2012. In the 1st Test of The Test series, Ashwin exerted his dominance on the NZ batsman. Batting first, India posted a total of 438 on the board. Chasing 438, NZ looked completely clueless from the start. R Ashwin went on to scalp 6 wickets, conceding only 31 runs in 16 overs. In the 2nd innings, Ashwin scalped another 6 wickets, as India won the Test by an innings and 115 runs. Owing to his brilliant bowling performance, Ashwin won the Man of the Match award.

1. 7/59 (Indore, 2016)

R Ashwin was relentless against NZ in the 3rd Test of the India-New Zealand Test series in 2016. NZ needed 475 runs to win the 3rd Test. However, India restricted the Kiwis to just 153, winning the match by a huge margin of 321 runs. Ashwin ran riot against NZ’s batsmen, scalping 7 wickets in just 14 overs. For his brilliant bowling performance in the 3rd Test, Ashwin won the Player of the Match award.
