India will take on Australia in the final ODI of the series at Canberra on Wednesday. Australia has already won the first 2 ODIs, clinching the series. This will now be at most a game of pride for the blue army. Kohli will look to make some changes to the team. Players who haven’t represented India will look to be part of the playing XI in the final ODI. Here we list 3 changes that might help India turn the tides against Australia:
Kuldeep Yadav for Yuzvendra Chahal
India has indefinitely struggled without an all-rounder. However, the bowlers have also underperformed throughout the series. One such bowler is Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal had a quite decent IPL season this year. In just 15 matches, Chahal bagged a total of 21 wickets. With an economy of 7.08, Chahal did remarkably well with the ball.
However, Chahal was unable to display similar heroics against Australia in the ODI series. The Australian batsmen took Chahal to the cleaners, as he was eventually smashed, conceding 89 runs in just 10 overs. Chahal managed to pick only a single wicket in the 1st ODI. In the 2nd ODI, Chahal was smashed again. This time he bowled only 9 overs, giving 71 runs with no wickets. With such performances, Kuldeep Yadav might finally get playing time under his belt.
T Natarajan or Shardul Thakur for Saini
Saini, like Chahal, was another disappointment in the ODI series. He did not pick up a single wicket against Australia in the ODI series. Saini failed to find the right lengths to bowl, and he eventually paid the price. Conceding 153 runs in just 17 overs, Saini was insanely expensive against Australia.
With such a dismal bowling performance, the likes of T Natarajan or Shardul Thakur might replace him. Natarajan was outstanding for SRH, picking up 16 wickets in 16 games. Shardul also had a decent spell with CSK, picking up 9 wickets in 10 games.
Shubman Gill for Mayank Agarwal
In the batting department, the player who failed to impress is Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal had a terrific IPL season with KXIP this year. In just 11 games, Agarwal amassed 424 runs. However, Agarwal failed to perform in the international format against the Aussies. With just 50 runs in 2 matches, Agarwal performed way beyond expectations.
Agarwal might eventually be replaced by Shubhman Gill, who has scored 440 runs in 14 games for KKR this season.
