Currently, the Indian T20I management is on the lookout for quality all-rounders. Every year, the IPL acts as a platform to help national selectors select the most promising Indian players. While some players impress national selectors, some players fail to put a strong case for national selection. That said, here is a list of 3 Indian all-rounders who damaged their T20 World Cup hopes after a poor performance in IPL 2021:

3. Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia was brilliant in the IPL last year. Owing to a solid performance in IPL 2020, Tewatia earned his maiden national call-up for the India T20I team for the England series. However, Tewatia failed a fitness test and was unable to make his T20I debut. After performing poorly in IPL 2021, it is likely that Tewatia will be part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. In IPL 2021, Tewatia managed to score only 86 runs in 7 matches for RR. Furthermore, he managed to scalp only 2 wickets this season. The 27-year-old will have to wait longer to make his T20I debut for India.

2. Shardul Thakur

Another Indian all-rounder who performed poorly in IPL 2021 is CSK’s, Shardul Thakur. The bowling all-rounder leaked runs at a dismal economy of 10.33 in IPL 2021. Furthermore, Thakur managed to scalp only 5 wickets in 7 matches for CSK in IPL 2021. The CSK bowler failed to bowl the right lengths in the IPL this year. After a poor outing in IPL 2021, Thakur’s chances of making it into India’s T20I squad are slim at best.

1. Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar did not have the best time in the IPL this year. In 6 matches in IPL 2021, Sundar managed to amass only 31 runs in total. His dismal batting average of 13.56 clearly highlights his ineffectiveness with the bat this season. Sundar also failed to impress with the ball in IPL 2021. The spinner managed to scalp only 3 wickets in the IPL this year. With Ravindra Jadeja and Rahul Chahar performing well in IPL 2021, Sundar might fail to make an appearance in the T20 World Cup.
