Team India will be going head-to-head against Zimbabwe in the first ODI tomorrow. The line-up, studded with many batting stars, will be looking to make the most of the opportunity at hand and score a truckload of runs.

The pitch at the Harare Sports club traditionally favours the batters, and they are expected to have a field day in the game tomorrow. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three Indian batters who can score the most runs in the first ODI against Zimbabwe:

  1. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is in sublime form and will be looking to continue that against Zimbabwe. He was the second highest run-scorer in the recent ODI series against the West Indies where he scored 168 runs in three innings at an average of 56.

Dhawan lost his place in the T20I team last year and, once again, doesn’t find himself in the scheme of things for the upcoming 20-20 world cup in Australia. The Southpaw will be determined to score runs to keep his place in the ODI team, keeping in mind, the growing competition from youngsters.

2. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is one of the most stylish batters in the Indian team. He’s a terrific player of the backfoot and loves to cut and pull the short deliveries. He was the highest run-scorer for India in the recent ODI series against West Indies where he plundered 205 runs in three innings at an average of 102.50.

Gill has played only six ODI matches, so far, and it looked like he has cracked the code for the format in the last series. He will be eager to continue from where he left off against the West Indies and stamp his authority on the format to make a strong case for himself in the next year’s World Cup.

3. KL Rahul

KL Rahul will be captaining the Indian team for this tour. He’s making a return to the cricket pitch after last appearing in the Indian T20 League in May. The Indian captain will be desperate to get going and score some runs to find some form before the upcoming Asia cup and 20-20 World Cup.

Rahul holds the key for India in both the upcoming tournaments. Being an opener, he will have the onus of giving explosive starts to the team. Rahul will be one of the batters to watch out for in the first ODI and he will be desperate to make a strong comeback to the Indian team.
