A new-look Team India is ready to take on Sri Lanka in a limited-overs series. Led by Shikhar Dhawan, India will try to give an impressive performance in the upcoming series. Rahul Dravid is the appointed head coach for the team.
Rahul Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan would have a hard time selecting the best playing XI out of the several talented players at their disposal. Players who have performed well in the Vijay Hazare trophy and the first half of IPL 2021 have been selected to the squad.
There are some veteran players in the squad who would try to prove again that they can play for India at the international level.
Deepak Chahar
MS Dhoni has always relied on Deepak Chahar to take important wickets during the IPL season. He made his debut for India in 2018 and has played 13 T20Is. During the matches, he has picked up 18 wickets for India with the best figure of 6/7 against Bangladesh. To date, it is the best T20 bowling figure ever.
Earlier in the year, Chahar was not featured in the T20 against England after an average performance in Australia. But he bounced back during phase 1 of IPL 2021 and exhibited an excellent swing bowling performance.
Alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Chahar has a good chance of re-establishing himself against Sri Lanka. It would help him seal his place in the T20 World Cup squad of India.
Manish Pandey
Ever since the 2015 World Cup, Manish Pandey had been in and around the Indian setup. In the limited chances he received to play for India, he has always impressed with his performance. But he has never been a consistent performer. It might have resulted in him not getting an extended run to play for India.
In the first phase of IPL 2021, he had a mixed season where he scored two half-centuries but at a below-par rate of 123.71. He had to face much criticism for his strike rate.
Manish Pandey would add experience to the middle order that would have players like Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson. It would be the key to India’s success against Sri Lanka.
Manish Pandey would have to perform extremely well to get selected for the T20 World Cup. The series against Sri Lanka would be one of the most important games of his career.
Kuldeep Yadav
In his brief international career, Kuldeep Yadav has seen many highs and lows. He was once one of the key players in India’s short format games. But things have changed and he needs to prove his ability once again at the international level.
Nevertheless, he has a good T20I record of 39 wickets from just 20 games. He would be a threat against Sri Lanka if he can get his line and length right. Kuldeep Yadav can get selected to play in the T20 World Cup if he can give a good performance.
