The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to start on April 9. The opening match will take place between 5-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Throughout the course of the IPL, we have seen many uncapped players represent their nation after a successful IPL campaign. Here are 3 players who could return to the Indian side if they perform well in the IPL this season:
Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin is in the form of his life right now. After a brilliant outing against Australia, Ashwin impressed everyone from the cricket fraternity to cricket pundits. Ashwin is clearly India’s best Test bowler in recent times. With Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav underperforming, we could see Ashwin don the blue shirt in the limited-overs series soon. Ashwin will represent Punjab Kings in IPL 2021. In his IPL career, Ashwin has scalped a total of 138 wickets in 154 matches. His experience will surely provide an edge to the DC bowling lineup this year.
Manish Pandey
Another player who could make a comeback on the Indian side is Manish Pandey. Manish Pandey was a regular starter for the Men in Blue in the past. However, he hasn’t appeared for India since he played Australia in a T20I match this year. With Shreyas Iyer out for the season, Pandey could get a chance to prove himself again. Pandey had a brilliant outing with SRH in IPL 2020. In 16 matches, Pandey amassed a total of 425 runs. If Pandey continues in such fashion in IPL 2021, we could see him start for India very soon.
Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar last represented India against West Indies in the 2019 ICC World Cup. Since then, Shankar has been out with a string of injuries. There has also been a drop in his performance since then. IPL 2021 could just be what Vijay Shankar needs to resurrect his lost form. Shankar is renowned for his all rounding abilities. Shankar could provide as a backup for Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. If Shankar puts in a successful IPL campaign this year, we might see him represent India soon.
