KKR started their IPL campaign with a bang after beating SRH by 10 runs in the 3rd match of IPL 2021. Nitish Rana was KKR’s most explosive batsman, notching a brilliant 80 off 56 balls. Alongside Shubman Gill, Rana notched a crucial 53 run partnership for the 1st wicket. KKR looked set to post a score of 200+. However, their middle-order trembled, with Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell unable to contribute. However, Dinesh Karthik’s quickfire 22 helped KKR post a total of 187 on the board. 3. Nitish Rana is at his best playing as an opener
In the IPL last year, KKR failed to find an opening partner for Shubman Gill. They experimented with Sunil Narine and Rahul Tripathi but did not get the desired results. However, this year, the issue could be resolved. Rana’s tremendous knock of 80 clearly depicts his effective batting as an opener. The opening batsmen of KKR could prove to be a lethal weapon in Eoin Morgan’s army in the upcoming matches in the IPL this year.
2. Rahul Tripathi’s effectiveness playing at the no 3 spot
KKR slotted in Rahul Tripathi at the no 3 spot in the match against SRH. Prior to Shubman Gill’s dismissal, Rahul notched a 93 run partnership with Nitish Rana. Tripathi’s knock of 53 off just 29 deliveries helped KKR establish a commanding position in the match. Clearly, Tripathi was at his best playing at the no 3 spot for KKR. With a stable top order, big hitters such as Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell could get the freedom to smash balls out of the park.
1. Dinesh Karthik looks in fine touch with the bat
Dinesh Karthik failed to impress with the bat in IPL 2020. However, it seems that Karthik is finally in full flow this year in the IPL. After Russell and Morgan’s quick dismissals, KKR needed a strong finish to their innings. Dinesh Karthik entered the pitch and did just that. Karthik announced his return in some style, smashing 22 runs off just 9 deliveries. Karthik’s confidence will surely be a boost for the KKR batting lineup in the IPL this year. However, KKR will also expect Andre Russell and Eoin Morgan to be at their batting best in the upcoming matches.
