Kolkata Knight Riders struggled to win games in the IPL this year. Out of 7 matches in the IPL this year, KKR managed to win only 2 matches in total. The KKR side has relied on its overseas players to deliver in the IPL this year. However, KKR will have to play the 2nd half of IPL 2021 without their English and Kiwi players. That said, here are 3 KKR players who might not play the 2nd half of the IPL this season:
Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan is the current captain of the England T20I national team. Hence, Morgan is highly unlikely to be available for the remainder of IPL 2021. Morgan is also the current captain of the KKR side and has seen success as a captain on a few occasions in the IPL. However, Morgan performed poorly in the IPL this season. The England T20I skipper could only manage to score 92 runs in 7 games in IPL 2021. Furthermore, Morgan’s ineffective decision-making as KKR captain cost them quite a few matches in the IPL this year. If Morgan is unavailable, Dinesh Karthik is likely to captain KKR in the 2nd half of IPL 2021.
Tim Seifert
Tim Seifert did not get to play a single game for KKR in the IPL this season. The New Zealand cricketer was signed as a backup wicketkeeper option for Dinesh Karthik. Seifert is one of the most explosive openers in the T20I format. In his T20I career, Seifert has racked up an impressive 695 runs in just 35 matches. The 26-year-old also boasts an impressive strike rate of 133.1 in the T20I format. KKR will hope that Seifert is available in the 2nd half of IPL 2021.
Lockie Ferguson
Lockie Ferguson bowled brilliantly in the IPL last year. In 5 matches in IPL 2020, Ferguson scalped an impressive 6 wickets in total. The New Zealand cricketer also maintained a decent bowling average of 7.46 in the IPL last year. However, Ferguson failed to make a single appearance for KKR in the IPL this year. Ferguson is a part of the New Zealand squad in all 3 formats of the game. Hence, it is highly unlikely that Lockie Ferguson will be available for KKR in the 2nd half of IPL 2021.
