5-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians endured a decent outing in the IPL this year. Out of 7 matches in IPL 2021, MI managed to win 4 matches in total. One reason why MI has been so successful in the IPL is because of their overseas players. Players such as Kieron Pollard and Trent Boult were brilliant for MI in the IPL this year. MI also has strong overseas backup options such as Jimmy Neesham in the squad. However, MI might have to play without some of their overseas players in the 2nd phase of IPL 2021. That said, here are 3 MI players who might not play the 2nd half of IPL 2021:
3. Trent Boult
Trent Boult has been one of the most crucial overseas players for MI in the past 2 years in the IPL. The 31-year-old scalped a total of 8 wickets in just 7 matches for MI in IPL 2021. Boult also bowled brilliantly in IPL 2020, scalping an impressive 25 wickets in just 15 matches. Mumbai Indians might struggle to qualify for the IPL 2021 playoffs in the absence of the New Zealand bowler.
2. Jimmy Neesham
Jimmy Neesham managed to play only a single match for MI in the IPL this year. However, there is no denying the fact that Neesham is arguably one of the best all-rounders in the T20 format. In his T20I career, Jimmy Neesham has scalped a total of 18 wickets in 29 matches for New Zealand. The 30-year-old has also scalped a total of 3 wickets in his IPL career. Jimmy Neesham can also come in handy with the bat whenever needed. Like Trent Boult, Neesham is a part of the New Zealand squad and will skip the 2nd phase of IPL 2021.
1. Adam Milne
Adam Milne played for RCB in IPL 2015 and 2016. However, MI acquired Milne in the 14th edition of the IPL, preferably as a backup option. Milne played only one game for MI in the IPL this year. In 6 matches in his IPL career, Adam Milne scalped a total of 4 wickets. Since NZ players are unlikely to participate in the 2nd phase of IPL 2021, Milne is set to miss out on the remainder of IPL 2021.
