The Indian Premier League is one of the biggest T20 cricket tournaments in the world. It allows Indian as well as international players to showcase their talents and earn big money. The presence of big international players has made IPL popular around the globe. But not all big-name international players have made their mark in IPL. Some of the players who have been forgotten are as follow:
Damien Martyn
Australian middle-order batsman Damien Martyn was a permanent player in the Australian team in the 90s. He had played 67 Tests for Australia and made 4506 runs at an average of 46.37. He had hit 13 centuries during his Test career. Martyn had also played ODIs for Australia and scored 5346 runs with five hundred and 37 half-centuries.
Martyn was selected by Rajasthan Royals for 100,000 dollars after his retirement from international cricket four years ago. He was selected to play in the 2010 season and played just one game. He had made 19 runs at a strike rate of 79.
Younis Khan
Younis Khan is undeniably one of the finest Test players of all time. He has played more than 100 Tests for Pakistan and scored 10099 runs at an average of 52.02. He had hit 34 centuries during his Test career.
Khan was not a Test specialist and had played many ODI games for Pakistan. He had even led the Pakistan team that won the 2009 T20 World Cup. He was also selected by Rajasthan Royals for 225,000 dollars in the inaugural season of IPL.
Younis Khan was not given the opportunity to play for RR in the first half of the tournament. He had played during the final group games after RR had secured a place in the playoffs. Kahan was dismissed by an Irfan Pathan in-swinger after making just three runs.
He was not given the chance to play in the IPL ever again and most fans have forgotten that he had played in the league.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Left-handed West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul had a unique batting style. He had represented West Indies in 164 Tests and scored more than 10,000 Test runs. He maintained an average of 51.37 and made 30 hundred including two double centuries.
He was selected by RCB in the inaugural season of IPL. In three matches, he had made just 25 runs at an average of 80. It was clear that he was not fit to play in the newest and shorter format of cricket. Thereby, he was not selected again to play in the IPL.
