PBKS endured a dismal outing in the IPL this year. Out of 8 matches in the IPL this year, Punjab managed to win only 3 matches. Clearly, the Punjab squad needs to sign better players in the upcoming IPL mega auction. However, PBKS will also want to ensure that it retains its most important players for the IPL next season. That said, here are 3 players that PBKS might retain in the IPL next season:

3. KL Rahul

KL Rahul is arguably the most important player for PBKS. Hence, it is highly likely that KL Rahul will surely be retained by Punjab for the IPL next season. The 29-year-old has been Punjab’s highest run-getter in the IPL in the last 3 seasons. The PBKS skipper also looked in fine form in the IPL this year. In just 7 matches in IPL 2021, KL Rahul racked up an impressive 331 runs for Punjab. KL Rahul’s terrific strike rate of 136.21 clearly highlights his effectiveness with the bat this season. PBKS fans will expect Rahul to deliver in a similar fashion in the IPL next season.

2. Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal is another crucial player for PBKS. The opening duo of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal has been the only positive for Punjab in the IPL this season. In 7 matches in IPL 2021, Agarwal racked up a total of 260 runs. Agarwal’s terrific batting average of 43.33 in IPL 2021 clearly highlights his explosive batting ability. If Agarwal gets going, he could do wonders for Punjab in the IPL next season. The PBKS management will be keen on retaining Mayank Agarwal for the IPL next season.

1. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is the most likely overseas player to be retained by PBKS in the IPL next season. The West Indian is arguably the most explosive batsman in the history of IPL. The 31-year-old has single-handedly won matches for his team on several occasions in the IPL. Gayle’s batting strike rate of 149.45 in the IPL clearly highlights his hard-hitting ability with the bat. Chris Gayle is a player that PBKS would surely want to retain in the IPL next season.
