However, they also faced issues regarding their captaincy duties. First, Ravindra Jadeja and then, MS Dhoni led the team. But, both failed to deliver in the tournament.

MS Dhoni has been the most successful captain in the history of this franchise. So, he will look to lead the team again in 2023. But, reports are there that this upcoming edition might be the last one for MS Dhoni. Therefore, there are some players who can become the new captain of this franchise.

This star Indian all-rounder can become the new skipper of the Chennai franchise in the Indian T20 League. Currently, Ravindra Jadeja is getting ready to make a comeback for team India against Australia in the upcoming series at home. However, in the last edition of the tournament, Ravindra Jadeja had the opportunity to lead the team.

He led Chennai in eight matches where the team won only twice. After that, he got injured and missed the tournament. So, the captaincy baton went to MS Dhoni again, and in this upcoming season, he will lead the team again. But, based on his experience, Chennai might go with him again in the next season.

Ben Stokes has shown great leadership qualities for England in the longest format of the game. Under his captaincy, England have evolved an attacking approach that have worked wonders so far.

This star England player is another player who can become the new captain for the Chennai franchise after 2023. Moeen Ali has been playing for this franchise for a long time now. He joined the team in 2021. In that season, he scored 357 runs in 15 matches, at an average of 25.50. 

While in the next season, Moeen Ali scored 244 runs in 10 matches, at an average of 24.40. Even with the ball, he has been an effective option. In two seasons, Moeen Ali took 14 wickets. Hence, after MS Dhoni, Chennai might look for this star player as the new skipper in order to develop a better team.
