The Indian Premier League 2021 is set to kickstart on April 9. Indian players will try their best to impress the selectors of the Indian National Team. IPL has provided a benchmark for the Indian committee to select the most talented players. With the ICC T20 World Cup imminent, selectors will be on the lookout for top talent. While some players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are pivotal to the team, some players will have to fight for their place on the Indian side. Here are 3 players whose places are not safe and will have to perform well in IPL 2021 for consideration on the Indian side:
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has certainly performed way below expectations in recent times. Once on top of the chain, Yadav has been pushed down the pecking order after some mediocre performances for the Men in Blue. In the ODI series against England, Yadav conceded 152 runs and did not manage to pick a single wicket. To compound matters, bowlers such as Ravichandran Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy will also vie for a spot in the side. Yadav will have to be at his best in order to persuade the selection committee to give him another chance.
Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna made his international debut for India in the limited-overs series against England. After some superb outings in the domestic circuit, Krishna finally received a call for international duty. However, as the ODI series progressed, Krishna’s performance started degrading with time. In the final ODI against England, Krishna conceded as many as 62 runs in just 7 overs. With such intense competition in the squad, Krishna has to impress the selectors with a superb outing in IPL 2021. Or else, there is a possibility that he might be pushed down the pecking order.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Another bowler who failed to impress in the ODI series against England is spin bowler Yuzvendra Chahal. The bowler has clearly lost his spark and is no longer considered a threat by opposition batsmen. In the recently contested series against England, Chahal was blasted around the park on several occasions. Furthermore, his wicket-taking ability is no longer on the same level now. IPL 2021 could be Chahal’s final chance if he wishes to continue playing for his country in the international format.
