IPL 2021

The IPL 2021 has been officially suspended with effect from 4th May 2021. The BCCI was forced to call off the IPL midway after a surge in COVID-19 cases in the IPL 2021 bio bubble. From 9th April 2021 to 2nd May 2021, we witnessed some exhilarating performances with the ball. However, only a few players managed to scalp wickets regularly for their respective IPL franchises this season. That said, here are 3 players who could have won the Purple cap if the IPL 2021 would have continued:

3. Chris Morris

One of the favorites to win the Purple Cap in IPL 2021 was RR bowler Chris Morris. The South African was acquired by RR at a whopping price tag of 16.5 cr. However, South African’s acquisition has been worth every penny. In 7 games in IPL 2021, Morris scalped an impressive 14 wickets in a total of RR. Moreover, his superb bowling average of just 16 clearly highlights his effectiveness with the ball. If IPL 2021 did not discontinue, Morris had a fighting chance to win the Purple Cap in the IPL this year.

2. Avesh Khan

At no 2 in this list is DC bowler Avesh Khan. Avesh Khan is the 2nd highest wicket-taker in the suspended IPL 2021. In just 8 games in IPL 2021, Avesh Khan scalped 14 wickets in total, including the wickets of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. The DC bowler also maintained a terrific bowling economy of 7.70 in 8 matches in IPL 2021. Unfortunately, Khan missed out on the chance to win the Purple cap owing to the suspension of IPL 2021.

1. Harshal Patel

RCB bowler Harshal Patel is the leading wicket-taker in the IPL this year. Patel scalped a 5 wicket haul against MI in the 1st match of IPL 2021. Moreover, this was the 1st occasion on which a bowler bagged a 5 wicket haul against MI. The RCB bowler concluded his IPL 2021 season by scalping a total of 17 wickets in 7 matches. Clearly, if IPL 2021 did not discontinue, Patel was the favorite to win the Purple cap in IPL 2021.
