In cricket, the Test format is considered the toughest because it is not easy to get success in it. A player must have skills but stamina and patience also play a big role.

It has been noticed before that few players succeed in the short format of cricket but fail in the red-ball format. This proves that Test cricket is not for everyone. Moreover, the character of the player in a game which is a 5-day match also plays an important part. Along with it, mental strength is also needed to perform well in Test cricket.

For example, a particular team dominates the first two days of the game. But if the opponents have the mental strength and character to fight back, then the match can turn around at any point. Thereby, mind games hold an important place in Tests cricket.

In red-ball cricket, most batsmen play defensively while the bowlers try to unsettle them by short deliveries. The bowlers often show their aggression by throwing bouncers or by targeting the batman’s head. Thanks to the helmets that batsmen wear, head injuries are not common in cricket. But concussions among players have become very common. Noting the seriousness of the situation, ICC had introduced the concussion replacement rule in cricket. But the bowlers still have the permission to throw bouncers at the batsmen. Three players who have been hit most times on the head are as follow:

Rory Burns

English player Rory Burns has been hit five times on the head in the 24 Test matches that he has played. The most recent incident was during the ongoing Test match between New Zealand and England. Kiwi bowler Kyle Jamieson hit him on the head at Lord’s. He was hit 2 times during his 132 runs knock against New Zealand.

Many fans must also remember the nasty injury Burns suffered while playing for Surrey in the 2015 T20 Blast. He had a horrible clash with Moises Henrique as both of them attempted to take the same catch.

Ajinkya Rahane

Vice-captain of the Indian team, Ajinkya Rahane has also been hit five times on the head in Test cricket. He is most attacked by the bowler as he is one of the most reliable batters for India in Test matches. One of the fast bowlers who had hit Ajinkya on his helmet was Dale Steyn in the South African tour.

Marnus Labuschagne

He is one of the top batters of the Australian Test team. His solid form and batting technique often frustrated the bowlers. In return, they bowled bouncers at him to break his stance. So far, he has also been hit five times in the head in his test career.

The most recent incident where he was hit on the helmet was during the Border-Gavaskar trophy last year. Mohammed Siraj of Team India hit him while he was quickly adding runs on the board for his side.
