Test Match

Every batsman dreams of scoring a double century in Test matches. It is the purest form of cricket to many fans worldwide. Moreover, to succeed in red-ball cricket a player needs to have adequate skills, patience, and stamina.

Before making Test debut, a cricketer gains confidence from first-class cricket. However, every cricketer experiences slight anxiety while batting for their country for the first time in a Test match.

Many legendary players have struggled in their first Test match. But there are some players who break expectations and go on to make a double century in their debut match. Some of those players are as follows:

Devon Conway

Devon Conway made his Test debut in the first Test of the two-match Test series against England. Conway became the seventh player to score a double century on the Test debut. He was the opening batsman for New Zealand. He stood his ground against bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Mark Wood while batting his way to double century.

Unfortunately, he was run out soon after reaching the double century mark. He had smashed 22 fours and one six of 347 balls.

Kyle Mayers

Kyle Mayers smashed 20 fours and seven sixes to score 210 runs off 310 deliveries. He scored his double century in the ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh. Mayers helped his team chase a target of 395 runs in the fourth innings. It is generally considered the toughest innings to bat. But Mayers stood up to the sub-continental conditions and helped his team chase the target with ease.

Jacques Rudolph

Former South African batsman achieved this feat against Bangladesh in 2003. He received his first Test cap in 2003. Rudolph remained not out 222 of 383 balls when South Africa was declared the winner of the series. He had smashed 29 fours and two sixes while batting in that innings. The South African team had won that match by 60 runs because of his extraordinary performance.

Rudolph had come out to bat at number 3 for Africa. After that, he formed an unbeaten partnership of 429 runs with Boeta Dippenaar.
