India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in a limited-overs series starting in July. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian team against Sri Lanka. Several uncapped players have been given a chance to showcase their ability in the international format. However, there are a few players who missed out on this opportunity even after performing well in the domestic circuit. That said, here are 3 players who were unfortunate to miss out on India’s squad for the Sri Lanka series:

3. Dinesh Karthik

The Indian squad currently has 2 wicketkeepers, namely Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. The duo has played a total of 9 T20Is for India. However, none of them has played a single ODI for India. Dinesh Karthik has a lot of experience playing as India’s wicketkeeper in the limited-overs series format. Furthermore, Dinesh Karthik has been in sensational form in the T20I format since 2018. Clearly, Karthik deserved a spot in India’s squad for the Sri Lanka series.

2. Vijay Shankar

Shankar was poor for SRH in the 1st half of IPL 2021. In 7 matches in the 1st half of IPL 2021, Shankar managed to scalp only 3 wickets for SRH. Furthermore, he could only manage to score 58 runs in the 1st half of the IPL this season. Regardless, Vijay Shankar could have been a useful player for India in the Sri Lankan conditions. India could have used Vijay Shankar as an extra pace-bowling all-rounder option as a backup for Hardik Pandya.

1. Harshal Patel

The exclusion of Harshal Patel from the Indian squad has garnered quite the attention. Patel is the highest wicket-taker in the 1st half of IPL 2021. In 7 matches in the 1st half of IPL 2021, Patel scalped a total of 17 wickets for RCB. Harshal Patel performed exceptionally well in the domestic circuit. Hence, he deserved a chance to play for India against Sri Lanka in the July series.
