The IPL 2021 is officially suspended and the postponed date is yet to be confirmed. A sudden surge of COVID-19 cases in the IPL 2021 bio bubble led to the immediate suspension. There are questions being asked regarding when the IPL 2021 will resume again. That said, here are 3 possible windows for IPL 2021 to resume:
3. IPL 2021 could take place in the UAE after the ICC T20 World Cup
It is well known that the UAE is another alternative to host IPL 2021. As per sources, there are high chances that the T20 World Cup will take place in the Middle East. If that happens, the BCCI could commence IPL 2021 in the UAE after the ICC T20 World Cup is over. Several players who played in the IPL will represent their countries in the ICC T20 World Cup. Hence, the formation of bio-bubbles would become much simpler.
2. IPL 2021 could restart in September 2021
India will take on New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final in June 2021. Prior to that, England will host India in August 2021 for a Test series comprising a total of 6 Test matches. There is a gap of 1 month between the Test series and the T20 World Cup. Hence, this gap could act as a possible window in which IPL 2021 could be conducted. Currently, the BCCI is considering the September window to resume IPL 2021.
1. IPL 2021 could resume from January 2022
India will tour South Africa in December 2021. Currently, the Indian national team hasn’t planned any series for February next year. Hence, the BCCI could utilize the time period of Jan-Feb 2022 to conduct the remaining matches of IPL 2021. However, if this happens, there won’t be enough time between the IPL 2021 final and the IPL 2022 mega auction. If none of the aforementioned scenarios are feasible, only then should BCCI opt for the January window to host IPL 2021.
