In the 9th match of IPL 2021, CSK defeated PBKS in a one-sided match. In 20 overs, PBKS could only muster 106 runs at the loss of 8 wickets. Shahrukh Khan was PBKS’s highest run-scorer, amassing 47 runs in 36 balls. In reply, it took CSK only 15.4 overs to chase the total and win the match. Contributions from Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali ensured that CSK crossed the winning line.

That said, here are 3 reasons why PBKS lost to CSK in IPL 2021:

3. Deepak Chahar destroyed PBKS’s batting lineup

Deepak Chahar put in his best performance in the IPL against PBKS this year. Bowling 4 overs, Chahar scalped 4 wickets, conceding just 13 runs in total. Chahar accounted for the wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Deepak Hooda, and Nicholas Pooran. For his outstanding performance with the ball, Chahar has adjudged the Man of the Match. CSK will heavily rely upon the bowler to keep scalping wickets in the upcoming matches this season.

2. Poor batting performance by Punjab

Mayank Agarwal got out for a duck in the 1st over of the innings, thanks to a brilliant delivery by Deepak Chahar. Punjab skipper KL Rahul was unfortunate, as he was run out for just 5 runs. Chris Gayle carelessly threw his wicket away as he was dismissed for just 10 runs. Deepak Chahar got the better of Deepak Hooda and Nicholas Pooran. This is the 2nd game in IPL 2021 in which Pooran got out for a duck. Apart from Shahrukh Khan, no batsman could contribute enough for Punjab to post a decent total. If Punjab wants to contend for the IPL this year, they need quality middle-order batsmen in case the top order fails to deliver.

1. Moeen Ali took CSK to the victory line

CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad looked unsettled and eventually got out for just 5 runs. While Faf du Plessis contributed 36 runs off 33 balls, Moeen Ali looked the most threatening with the bat. In just 31 balls, Ali amassed 46 runs with a total of 7 fours and 1 six. After Ali’s dismissal, CSK lost 2 wickets in quick succession. However, the damage was already done. Sam Curran finished things off for CSK as they beat Punjab in the 9th match of IPL 2021.
