CSK ended RCB’s winning streak in IPL 2021 by defeating them in the 19th match of the season. Batting first, CSK posted a total of 191 on the board, thanks to a brilliant cameo from Ravindra Jadeja. In reply, RCB could muster only 122 runs, losing by a comprehensive margin of 69 runs. With this victory, CSK is now the table toppers in IPL 2021. Meanwhile, RCB has dropped two places to no 3 in the IPL 2021 points table. That said, here are 3 reasons why CSK beat RCB in the 18th match of IPL 2021:
3. Harshal Patel conceded too many runs in CSK’s final over
Harshal Patel bowled really well against CSK, scalping 3 wickets for RCB against CSK. However, his final over against CSK is one the bowler will want to forget. Harshal Patel conceded an astonishing 37 runs in the 20th over of CSK’s innings. Ravindra Jadeja smacked the first two balls of the over for a six. In the 3rd ball of the over, Patel bowled a no-ball and Jadeja amassed another six off the same ball. 2 more sixes and a four in the over added to the misery of RCB, with Patel bowling the most expensive over in IPL history.
2. RCB’s no 3 conundrum
After CSK posted 191 on the board, RCB knew they needed a good start to the game. RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal did exactly that. In just 15 balls, Padikkal amassed an impressive 34 runs. However, Padikkal was dismissed by Shardul Thakur in the 4th over of RCB’s innings. Washington Sundar came to bat at no 3. However, he could amass only 7 runs in 11 balls. Unlike most of the times, the duo of Glenn Maxwell and AB De Villiers failed to guide RCB to another thrilling victory. RCB needs to resolve the no 3 problem if they want to win their maiden IPL trophy this year.
1. Jadeja stole the show against RCB
A brilliant all-round performance from Ravindra Jadeja saw CSK hand RCB their first loss in IPL 2021. With the bat, Jadeja was unstoppable. In just 28 deliveries, Jadeja smashed 62 runs, including a 37 run over against Harshal Patel. With the ball, Jadeja scalped 3 wickets in 4 overs, conceding just 13 runs in total. Jadeja was also the chief architect behind a spectacular runout of Dan Christian. Owing to his brilliant performance against RCB, Jadeja was awarded Man of the Match.
