CSK vs SRH

CSK beat SRH by 7 runs in the 23rd match of IPL 2021 to register their 5th win of the season. Batting first, SRH posted a total of 171 on the board, with a loss of 3 wickets. In reply, CSK chased the total with 7 wickets in hand and 9 balls left to bowl. The 3-time IPL champions are now back at the top of the IPL 2021 points table. On the other hand, SRH lost their 5th game in the IPL this year. That said, here are 3 reasons why CSK beat SRH in the 23rd match of IPL 2021:

3. Rashid Khan leaked runs against CSK

Rashid Khan is arguably one of the most economical bowlers in the IPL. Quite a few world-class batsmen have failed to pick his mind-boggling deliveries. That said, conceding 36 runs in 4 overs is a rare sight, especially if it is Rashid Khan. Even though he scalped 3 wickets for SRH, he averaged an economy of 9 runs per over. CSK needed to score runs at an average of 8.5 runs per over to win the match. Because Rashid Khan failed to keep the run rate down, SRH ended up on the losing side.

2. CSK’s openers ran riot against SRH

The duo of Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad got CSK off to a flying start. Gaikwad was CSK’s highest run-scorer in the match against SRH. In just 44 balls, Gaikwad smashed 75 runs, which featured a total of 12 boundaries. Faf du Plessis also looked threatening, scoring 56 runs in 38 balls. Prior to the duo’s dismissal, CSK needed only 24 runs in the last 5 overs. The duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina guided CSK to the winning line, with 9 balls left in the innings. Owing to his brilliant performance with the bat, Gaikwad was awarded the Man of the Match award.

1. David Warner’s sluggish knock for SRH

Although David Warner amassed another half-century, it took him 55 balls to achieve the same. The SRH skipper did not manage to hit an entire six in his innings. Moreover, he managed to score only 4 boundaries in his knock of 57. While Warner looked sluggish with the bat, Kane Williamson looked more threatening. In just 10 balls, Williamson smacked 26 runs. Kedhar Jadhav also played a small cameo, notching 12 runs in just 4 balls. Warner’s innings sapped the momentum out of SRH’s innings. With CSK’s bowlers failing to pick wickets, SRH could easily have posted a total of 200 on the board. Warner needs to find his form before it's too late for SRH in IPL 2021.
