In a match that boiled down to the wire, DC edged past SRH to win the match in a Super over. Batting first, DC posted a total of 159 on the board. In reply, SRH managed to chase the total, falling short by just 1 run. In the Super over, DC managed to score 8 runs. In reply, SRH could only manage 7 runs in the Super over. Eventually, DC won the Super over and the match in what was a nail-biting encounter. With this victory, DC moved to the no 2 spot in the IPL 2021 points table. On the other hand, SRH is now 7th in the points table. That said, here are 3 reasons why DC beat SRH in the 20th match of IPL 2021:
3. Khaleel Ahmed’s poor performance against DC
Khaleel Ahmed started for SRH against DC after T Natarajan was ruled out due to an injury. Ahmed bowled quite well against MI and PBKS in the IPL 2021 recently. However, Ahmed failed to deliver in the match against DC. In 4 overs, Ahmed leaked a total of 42 runs. Moreover, Ahmed failed to scalp a single wicket in the entire match against DC. Khaleel Ahmed will need to bowl better in the upcoming games this season or else he might drop soon.
2. Virat Singh’s sluggish innings against DC
Virat Singh’s slow innings completely soaked the momentum out of SRH’s innings. Facing 14 balls, Singh could only manage to amass 4 runs. This, in turn, piled a lot of pressure on Kane Williamson and the rest of the SRH batting order. When Singh entered the crease to bat, SRH were 56/2 in just 5.4 overs. Prior to Singh’s dismissal, SRH was 84/3 in 11.2 overs. Thanks to Kane Williamson, SRH managed to level the total posted by SRH in the 20th match of IPL 2021. However, they narrowly missed out in the Super over and eventually lost the match.
1. SRH’s middle batting order failed to deliver against DC
Apart from Kane Williamson, every SRH middle-order batsman failed to make an impact with the bat. Virat Singh could only contribute 4 runs, while Kedhar Jadhav got out for just 9 runs. Axar Patel got the better of Rashid Khan and Abhishek Sharma, with the duo contributing just 5 runs in total. Had Williamson got some support from the end, SRH could have easily won the match against DC.
