3 reasons why DC lost against RR in IPL 2021

In yet another close contest in IPL 2021, RR edged past DC to win the match by 3 wickets. However, this was unlike in the previous 2 games of IPL 2021, where the bowling side made a comeback. With the victory, RR sits at no 5 on the table. Meanwhile, DC sits at no 4 on the IPL 2021 points table. DC would be gutted after losing despite having some quality bowlers in their team.

That said, here are 3 reasons why DC lost to RR in IPL 2021:

3. DC’s batting order failed to deliver

After completing a spectacular run chase against CSK, the DC batsmen looked threatening with the bat. However, in the match against RR, both Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan could contribute only a total of 11 runs. Ajinkya Rahane also failed to impress with the bat, notching only 8 runs before getting out. Australian cricketer Marcus Stoinis looked unsettled, as he was eventually dismissed for a duck. However, Rishabh Pant’s superb knock of 51 off 32 balls kept Delhi in the game. A few contributions from DC’s bowlers helped the team post a total of 147 on the board. Clearly, DC needs its batting order to be more consistent if they want to win the IPL this year.

2. Tom Curran delivered below expectations

The English cricketer was smashed out of the park in the match against RR in IPL 2021. Curran bowled a total of 3.4 overs, conceding 35 runs in total. Curran needed to defend 12 runs off the last over to ensure a win for his side. However, Rahul Tewatia and Chris Morris finished things off for RR as they chased the total with 2 balls to spare. The English bowler has been given a chance after Anrich Nortje was announced injured. However, prior to Nortje’s return, there is a possibility that Curran might be dropped to the bench.

1. Poor reading of the pitch by DC compared to RR

DC created a record at the Wankhede after they failed to register a single six in their entire innings against RR. In comparison, RR’s batsmen easily cleared the ropes on several occasions. Even though DC managed to restrict RR to 42/5, they failed to convert it into a victory. David Miller’s crucial innings along with Chris Morris’s quick cameo ensured RR ended on the winning side. DC skipper Rishabh Pant might improvise some changes in the upcoming matches after DC’s poor performance against RR.
