Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood recently opted out of the 14th edition of the IPL. Hazlewood was part of the CSK squad for IPL 2021. In his place, Jason Behrendorff has been brought in the squad by the Chennai franchise. The 30-year-old was part of the MI squad back in IPL 2019. However, he will represent CSK in the IPL this year. Behrendorff will miss CSK’s next game on 16th April against the Punjab Kings. The Australian cricketer is on a 7 day quarantine and will be available for selection in CSK’s 3rd match in IPL 2021. So far in his IPL career, Behrendorff has played 5 matches, scalping a total of 5 wickets. That said, here are 3 reasons why Jason Behrendorff could have a successful outing in the IPL this year:

1. Jason Behrendorff has been in fine form lately

The Australian bowler has been in fine touch with the ball in recent times. Behrendorff won the Man of the Match award in the recently contested Marsh Cup. In a match against Tasmania, Behrendorff scalped a total of  3 wickets, with a career best knock of 35 for Western Australia. The 30 year old did not play the BBL 2020-21. However, Behrendorff will certainly want to leave a mark in the IPL this year.

2. Jason Behrendorff has delivered on Indian pitches

With the IPL set to be played in India, Behrendorff could be quite handy for the Chennai side this year. Behrendorff has been a dominating figure playing in Indian conditions. In a T20I match against India in 2017, Behrendorff recorded superb bowling figures of 4/21. His wickets included the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli. With his ability to deceive batsmen, Behrendorff could prove to be a lethal weapon in Dhoni’s army.

3. Jason Benhrendorff could flourish under Dhoni’s captaincy

Countless players have blossomed under the captaincy of CSK skipper MS Dhoni. Dhoni’s priceless presence behind the stumps has helped CSK’s bowling on countless occasions. Under Dhoni’s tutelage, Behrendorff could wreak havoc bowling the opening spell alongside Sam Curran. MS Dhoni is known to bring out the best of his players. If Dhoni utilises the best of Behrendorff’s potential, we could see the Australian win the purple cap in IPL 2021.
