The 3rd match of IPL 2021 saw KKR emerge victorious over SRH by 10 runs in a thrilling encounter. SRH captain David Warner won the toss and put KKR to bat first. Batting first, KKR were 187/6 at the end of 20 overs. In reply, Warner’s SRH fell short by 10 runs as KKR won their 1st match in the IPL this year. That said, here are 3 reasons why KKR managed to defeat SRH in the 3rd match of IPL 2021:

3. Manish Pandey’s innings was too slow to keep pace with the game

Manish Pandey entered as the no 3 batsman after SRH lost David Warner quite early. Wriddhiman Saha failed to impress with the bat, scoring only 6 runs before he was dismissed by Shakib al Hasan. Even though Pandey was SRH’s highest run-getter in the match, his innings completely sucked the momentum out of SRH’s innings. Surprisingly, Pandey could not manage to hit a single boundary in the last 5 overs. Somehow, he managed to hit a six off the final ball of the match, but the damage was done. Had Pandey managed to find the gaps consistently, the story would be different?

2. Eoin Morgan utilised his bowlers effectively

The KKR captain stole the game from SRH with some superb bowling decisions. Harbhajan Singh almost dismissed David Warner in the 1st overs of SRH’s innings. Prasidh was given to bowl with the new ball, while Cummins was introduced in the 6th over. Morgan effectively utilized Shakib al Hasan, who dismissed Saha in the powerplay overs. With his bowling decisions, Morgan ensured that SRH was constantly under pressure. Eventually, his decisions yielded fruit and KKR went on to win their 1st match in the IPL this year.

1. KKR were on the offensive right from the start

The 2-time champions looked threatening with both the ball and the bat. In the batting department, Nitish Rana took the game to SRH. His knock of 80 swayed the momentum in KKR’s favor. Rana also had support from Rahul Tripathi, who smacked 53 runs in just 29 balls.

On the other hand, KKR’s bowlers never let the SRH batsmen settle. With some great team management by Eoin Morgan, KKR put in a solid overall performance in the 3rd match of IPL 2021.
