KL Rahul will not represent India in the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. KL Rahul has performed superbly for India in the limited-overs format. However, KL Rahul has failed to deliver consistently for India in the longest format of the game. Here are 3 reasons why KL Rahul was not selected for the England Tour:

⦁ KL Rahul doesn’t fit in India’s playing XI in the Test format

India already has plenty of world-class batsmen in the Test squad. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are set to open for India in the World Test Championship. Mayank Agarwal, who has been in fine form with the bat, is also available as a reserve opener. In the middle order, India has some quality batsmen, namely Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rishabh Pant. Hanuma Vihari and Wriddhiman Saha are also available as reserves for the middle order.

⦁ KL Rahul needs to practice for the white-ball format ahead of the T20 World Cup

While KL Rahul is not a part of the Indian Test team, he is a crucial part of India in the limited-overs format. The 2nd half of the IPL this season will provide Rahul an opportunity to get acquainted with the rigors of the T20 format. However, the tour of Sri Lanka could have helped KL Rahul get even more practice for the white-ball format ahead of the T20 World Cup.

⦁ KL Rahul could have been India’s captain against Sri Lanka

KL Rahul has been a superb captain for PBKS in the IPL this year. Rahul is a calm customer and clearly has all the necessary qualities to lead India in the future. However, in Rahul’s absence, Shikhar Dhawan is now the captain of India for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. The Indian team management might have committed a huge mistake by leaving out KL Rahul as India’s captain.
