RCB registered their 5th win in IPL 2021, defeating DC by just 1 run in a nail-biting encounter. Batting first, RCB posted a competitive total of 171 on the board. In reply, DC fell short by a single run, managing to post 170 on the board. With this victory, RCB has retained the No 1 spot in the IPL 2021 points table. On the other hand, DC is now 3rd in the points table. That said, here are 3 reasons why RCB beat DC in the 22nd match of IPL 2021:

3. Marcus Stoinis leaked runs in his final over against RCB

DC’s bowlers bowled really well to restrict RCB to 148 runs in 19 overs. However, the last over of RCB’s innings completely swayed the match in their favor. DC skipper Rishabh Pant opted for Marcus Stoinis to bowl the last over of RCB’s innings. This was the all-rounder’s 1st over in the entire match. Pant’s decision to go with Stoinis completely backfired, as AB de Villiers took Stoinis to the cleaners. The South African smacked 23 runs in the final over of RCB’s innings, taking RCB’s total to 171.

2. DC’s top order failed to contribute

The reason why DC has been so successful so far this season is because of their opening duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. However, Dhawan and Shaw failed to provide DC an ideal start against RCB. Dhawan could contribute only 6 runs, while Shaw contributed 21 runs to the total. DC’s poor start to the innings heaped a lot of pressure on the middle order to deliver. Apart from Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer, no other DC batsman scored more than 30 runs. However, the duo’s valiant effort went in vain, as DC fell short by just 1 run.

1. Rishabh Pant failed to guide DC to victory against RCB

DC needed 10 off the last 2 balls to win the match against RCB. However, things would not have boiled down to the wire if Rishabh Pant had played more attacking shots. In his innings of 58, Pant amassed only 4 fours in total. Moreover, he couldn’t manage to amass a single six in his entire innings. Shimron Hetmyer looked more threatening with the bat. In just 25 runs, Hetmyer smacked 53 runs with a terrific strike rate of 212. If Pant would have taken more risk with the bat, DC could have easily won the match.
