Royal Challengers Bangalore extended their winning streak in IPL 2021 after defeating KKR by a comprehensive margin of 38 runs. Batting first, RCB put a mammoth total of 204 on the board with a loss of 4 wickets. In reply, KKR could muster only 166 runs with a loss of 8 wickets. RCB have now won 3 out of 3 games in IPL 2021 and sit at the top of the IPL 2021 points table. Meanwhile, after losing against RCB, KKR is now at no 6 in the points table. That said, here are 3 reasons why KKR lost against RCB in IPL 2021:

3. KKR skipper Eoin Morgan’s awful bowling decisions

KKR looked to be in a commanding position at the start of the match, with Varun Chakravarthy scalping 2 wickets in his 1st over. However, Morgan then removed Chakravarthy from the attack as Glenn Maxwell looked to settle. This decision backfired with immediate effect, as Maxwell sent KKR’s bowlers to the cleaners. Later in the game, Morgan brought in Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna to bowl a couple of overs. However, this meant that Andre Russell would bowl the final overs of the match. Russell was smacked out of the park, conceding 38 runs in just 2 overs. Owing to some woeful decision making by Eoin Morgan, KKR lost grip of the match.

2. Shakib al Hasan’s disappointing performance

After Andre Russell, Shakib al Hasan was KKR’s most expensive bowler against RCB in IPL 2021. Bowling 2 overs, Shakib al Hasan leaked a total of 24 runs, averaging at 12 runs per over. With the bat, Shakib amassed just 26 runs in total. Shakib al Hasan will have to deliver with both ball and bat if he wants to keep his place in the KKR side.

1. RCB’s foreign players deliver for the RCB side

Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers set the stage on fire against KKR in IPL 2021. Maxwell amassed 78 runs off 49 balls, smashing 9 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Meanwhile, de Villiers smashed 76 runs in just 34 balls. In the bowling department, Kyle Jamieson delivered with the ball against KKR. Even though Jamieson leaked 41 runs in 3 overs, he scalped 3 wickets for RCB. The Bengaluru franchise will back its overseas players to deliver in a similar fashion in the upcoming matches.
