RCB registered an emphatic victory against RR, defeating them by 10 wickets. Batting first, RR posted a total of 177 on the board. In reply, RCB chased the total with 21 balls to spare. With this victory, RCB has regained the no 1 spot in the IPL 2021 points table. Meanwhile, RCB sits at the bottom of the table, with only 1 win from 4 matches. That said, here are 3 reasons why RCB defeated RR in IPL 2021:
3. RCB’s pace bowlers were too hot to handle for RR’s top order
Indian cricketer Manan Vohra and England cricketer Jos Buttler opened for RR against RCB. RCB bowler Mohammed Siraj bowled Jos Buttler for just 8 runs in the 2nd over of RR’s innings. In the next over, Vohra got out, managing to score only 7 runs in 9 balls. David Miller was dismissed for a duck in the second ball he faced. RR skipper Sanju Samson failed to impress with the bat, scoring only 21 runs in 18 balls. Prior to Samson’s dismissal, RR’s score was 43/4 with 8 overs bowled. The RR middle order managed to put some runs on the board. However, in the end, it was just not good enough to be defended.
2. A dull finish by RR’s middle order
RR cricketer Shivam Dube looked on course to register his maiden IPL fifty. However, he got out for 46 runs. Contributions from Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag helped RCB post a total of 177 on the board. However, RR managed to mass only 49 runs in the last 5 overs of their innings. In a pitch-perfect for batsmen, this simply was not good enough. Clearly, RR misses the services of Jofra Archer, who is a clean hitter of the bowl at the death and is a tremendous bowler as well.
1. RCB’s solid opening partnership
RCB’s opening duo of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal was unstoppable against RCB. Padikkal notched his maiden IPL century against RR in the 16th match of IPL 2021. Facing just 52 balls, Padikkal amassed 101 runs in total. Padikkal’s spectacular innings featured a total of 11 fours and 6 sixes. On the other hand, Virat Kohli achieved another personal milestone. Kohli became the 1st player in IPL history to notch 6000 runs. Kohli’s handy knock of 72 along with Padikkal’s century helped RCB win the match with 10 wickets in hand.
