RR registered their 3rd victory in IPL 2021 after defeating SRH. Batting first, RR posted a mammoth total of 220 on the board. In reply, SRH could muster only 165 runs, losing the match by a margin of 55 runs. That said, here are 3 reasons why RR beat SRH in the 28th match of IPL 2021:

3. SRH’s tactic to bowl Rashid Khan early backfired

SRH’s new captain Kane Williamson decided to bowl Rashid Khan in the powerplay overs. The reason behind this was that RR opener Jos Buttler performed poorly against spinners this season in the IPL. Initially, the tactic delivered, with Rashid Khan scalping the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal and keeping Buttler at bay. However, the decision to use Rashid early backfired, as Buttler and Sanju Samson smacked SRH’s bowlers in the 5th and 6th over. Moreover, Samson and Buttler went on to notch a solid 150 run partnership to put RR in the commanding position.

2. SRH’s middle order failed to keep the run rate ticking

The duo of Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow got SRH off to an ideal start. Pandey smacked 31 off 20 balls while Bairstow amassed 30 off 21 balls. However, prior to the duo’s dismissal, SRH’s batting order collapsed. SRH skipper Kane Williamson could only amass 20 runs in 21 balls. Vijay Shankar failed to impress with the bat, scoring only 8 runs in 8 balls. Kedhar Jadhav was also ineffective with the bat, scoring 19 runs in 19 balls. Mohammad Nabi’s cameo of 17 in just 5 balls was simply not enough for SRH. At the end of 20 overs, SRH fell 55 runs short of the target.

1. RR’s overseas players deliver against SRH

RR opener Jos Buttler ran riot against SRH in the 28th match of IPL 2021. In just 64 balls, the England cricketer smacked 124 runs for the RR side. His spectacular innings featured a total of 11 fours and 8 huge sixes. In the bowling department, Mustafizur Rahman and Chris Morris scalped wickets for RR. Both Rahman and Morris scalped 3 wickets each. Overall, a superb performance by RR’s overseas players guided RR to a 3rd win in IPL 2021.
