SRH registered their 1st win in IPL 2021 after beating PBKS by 9 wickets. With this victory, SRH have jumped 3 spots to no 5 in the IPL 2021 points table. On the other hand, PBKS are now at the bottom of the points table. Batting first, PBKS were bowled out for just 120 runs. In reply, SRH chased the target with 9 wickets in hand and 8 balls left to bowl. That said, here are 3 reasons why SRH defeated PBKS in IPL 2021:

A brilliant all round performance from SRH’s bowlers

The Orange Army played without their main bowler Rashid Khan. However, SRH’s bowlers put on a brilliant outing against PBKS, restricting them to just 120 in 20 overs. Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers in the SRH side. Bowling 4 overs, Khaleel conceded only 21 runs, scalping 3 wickets in total. Abhishek Sharma also bowled quite well, scalping 2 wickets and averaging just 6 runs per over.  What was most remarkable about SRH’s bowling against PBKS was that every bowler averaged under 8 runs per over.

PBKS’s overseas players failed to deliver

PBKS introduced 2 changes against SRH as Fabian Allen and Moises Henriques came in for Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson. However, the duo of Henriques and Allen failed to deliver with the bat, scoring only 20 runs in total. Allen was decent with the ball, but Henriques bowled only over in the match. Chris Gayle failed to deliver with the bat, scoring only 15 runs in total. Nicholas Pooran continued his dismal form in IPL 2021, as he was dismissed for a duck yet again. If Punjab wants to contend for the IPL this year, they need their overseas players to deliver soon.

Jonny Bairstow’s innings sealed the deal for SRH

SRH needed to chase a meagre target of 121 to win their 1st match in IPL 2021. SRH’s openers got the side to a flier. Warner and Bairstow’s partnership of 73 swayed the match in SRH’s favor. Prior to Warner’s dismissal, Bairstow guided SRH to the winning line. Facing 56 deliveries, Bairstow scored 63 runs, featuring 3 fours and 3 sixes in total. Owing to his brilliant batting performance, Jonny Bairstow was awarded the Man of the Match award.
