The Punjab franchise is struggling to win matches in IPL 2021. PBKS somehow managed to win their 1st match of IPL against RR by 4 runs. However, they lost their next 2 matches against CSK and DC respectively. Punjab is currently at 7th, with only SRH below them in the IPL 2021 points table. The Punjab franchise will definitely consider changing its lineup for the upcoming matches this season. That said, here are 3 tactical changes that PBKS might make in IPL 2021:
Dawid Malan in place of Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran has performed poorly with the bat in IPL 2021 so far. In 3 matches, Pooran has amassed just 9 runs in total. Hence, there is a possibility that Pooran might be dropped and Malan could be used in his place. Dawid Malan is the current No 1 ranked batsman in the T20I format. In 24 T20Is, Malan has amassed 1003 runs at a superb batting average of 50.15. With Dawid Malan in sublime form, he could be used as a replacement for Nicholas Pooran.
Chris Jordan in place of Riley Meredith
Meredith has failed to deliver with the ball on Indian pitches in IPL 2021. In 3 matches, Meredith managed to scalp just 2 wickets in total. Furthermore, he has been quite costly with the ball, conceding 10.5 runs per over. In his place, Chris Jordan could start for PBKS in the upcoming matches. In his IPL career, Jordan has scalped 21 wickets in just 20 matches. The England bowler has also picked 70 wickets in his T20I career. Certainly, Jordan’s inclusion will add a lot to experience to the Punjab bowling lineup.
Ravi Bishnoi in the role of a specialist spinner
Murugan Ashwin failed to impress with the ball in IPL 2021 so far. In 2 matches in IPL 2021, Murugan conceded 75 runs in 7 overs and managed to pick only 2 wickets. In his place, Jalaj Saxena was introduced in the starting XI. Saxena’s introduction yielded no fruit, as he failed to pick a single wicket for PBKS. Hence, there is a chance that Punjab might start with Ravi Bishnoi in the upcoming matches. Bishnoi has played 14 matches in his IPL career, scalping 12 wickets in total. The 20-year-old deserves a chance to start for PBKS in IPL 2021.
