After KL Rahul and his men posted a giant total of 221 on the board, RR needed its batsmen to deliver. Rajasthan didn’t get off to the best start, with Ben Stokes dismissed for a duck. Prior to Stokes’s dismissal, RR captain Sanju Samson took the game to PBKS. Samson played one of the best innings in his IPL career, smashing 113 runs off just 69 balls. Unfortunately, Rajasthan fell short by just 4 runs as PBKS emerged victorious in the 4th match of IPL 2021.

That said, here are 3 takeaways from RR’s batting against PBKS in the 4th match of IPL 2021:

1. Sanju Samson’s top notch century

Even though RR could not win the match, Sanju Samson won hearts with his tremendous batting display. After a dismal season in IPL 2020, Samson made a comeback in grand fashion in IPL 2021. Samson sent Punjab’s bowlers to the cleaners, fighting all on his own to take his team to victory. However, Samson’s valiant knock of 113 was ultimately futile as RR lost the match by just 4 runs. Samson would be high on confidence after a tremendous batting display in his 1st match of IPL 2021.

2. RR’s top batting order failed to make an impact

RR’s opening woes still continue to haunt them in the IPL this year. Last year, RR failed to arrive at a reliable opening option. In the 1st match of IPL 2021, we saw glimpses of the same. Ben Stokes failed to deliver as an opener, as he got out for a duck. Jos Buttler looked in fine touch after smacking 4 continuous boundaries. However, Buttler failed to post a big score as he was dismissed for just 25 runs. If RR wishes to win IPL 2021 this season, they will surely need to figure out a reliable opening pair for the team.

3. Riyan Parag impressed with both ball and bat

Riyan Parag bowled a single over in the match against RR. However, he scalped the priceless wicket of Chris Gayle and conceded only 7 runs in his over. With the bat, Parag notched a quickfire 25 which gave RR a fighting chance in the match. In his innings, Paraj smacked a total of 4 sixes and 1 boundary. Parag’s impressive all-round display will certainly boost the confidence of the RR side. The 19-year-old will be eager to impress in the upcoming matches after a solid start in the IPL this year.
