Yesterday, the BCCI announced that IPL 2021 will no longer continue and that it will be postponed to a later date. While this might have discouraged some teams, some teams might benefit from the postponement of IPL 2021. Quite a few teams saw some of their overseas playing options leave the IPL midway this season. If the IPL 2021 is scheduled later, we might witness overseas players return to represent their respective franchises.
That said, here are 3 teams that will benefit from the postponement of IPL 2021:
3. Punjab Kings
KL Rahul had to leave IPL 2021 midway as he had to undergo surgery for acute appendicitis. Prior to a successful surgery, Rahul needed to quarantine for a 7 day period. Owing to that, KL Rahul was certain to miss the next 3-4 games for PBKS in IPL 2021. In 7 games for PBKS in IPL 2021, KL Rahul smacked 331 runs in total. The IPL 2020 Orange cap winner was Punjab’s highest run-getter in IPL 2021. Punjab was already struggling in IPL 2021, with only 3 wins in 8 matches. Clearly, KL Rahul’s absence wouldn’t have done Punjab any favors this season.
2. Delhi Capitals
Former DC captain Shreyas Iyer pulled out of IPL 2021 because of a shoulder injury. However, with the suspension of IPL 2021, Iyer could finally take over as DC captain when the IPL is rescheduled. Iyer’s return could also allow DC to use an extra overseas option. This is likely because Shreyas Iyer will bat at No 3 and replace Steve Smith in the starting XI. R Ashwin could also make his return to the Delhi side if the IPL is rescheduled. R Ashwin left IPL 2021 midway owing to some personal reasons.
1. Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals saw 4 of their major overseas players leave IPL 2021 midway. Ben Stokes left the season midway, owing to an injury. Jofra Archer was also unfit to participate in the IPL this season on account of an injury. Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone announced their departure from IPL 2021, citing bubble fatigue as the reason. If the BCCI postpones IPL 2021 to a later date, RR might see its overseas players return to action.
