South Africa has reported their Test squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home. After a great deal of speculation, the series got the go-ahead from the Sri Lankan experts on Thursday (December 10). The series will occur as initially planned. There were questions over the series after the ODI series between the Proteas and England was canceled on clinical grounds.
There was an evident breach of bio-bubble in the England camp as a few people tested positive for COVID-19. In any case, Sri Lanka Cricket and Cricket South Africa at long last consented to proceed with the Test series. The first Test is booked to get in progress on Boxing Day (26 December). The second Test set to begin on 3 January 2021 at the Wanderers.
South Africa's Test squad
South Africa have named three uncapped players – opening batsman Sarel Erwee, wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne, and medium-pacer Glenton Stuurman – in their squad for the approaching series. The Proteas will likewise have another captain in place. Quinton de Kock has been given charge of the group in an impermanent capacity.
South Africa will be without their premier pacer Kagiso Rabada and all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius. Both players are sidelined with injuries. Pretorius was ruled out of the ongoing white-ball series against England with a hamstring concern while Rabada got a crotch strain during the T20Is. CSA expressed that the pair would both be evaluated in the coming days to decide whether they could be added to the team.
Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje will be leading the pace assault. In the spin division, South Africa has named only one expert as Keshav Maharaj. In the batting office, Aiden Markram will return to the top of the order subsequent to missing the majority of the previous summer with a hand injury. Markram leads the homegrown run-scorers' list, with three hundred from his last three innings. He will replace Pieter Malan who has not been named in the squad.
