The Indian cricket team has produced some of the finest talents in the ODI format. Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, the Indian national ODI team has improved tremendously. Quite a few young Indian cricketers such as Rishabh Pant have cemented their spot in the starting lineup of India’s national ODI team. However, the rise of youngsters in the Indian side ODI side has left the careers of a few experienced players at risk. That said, here are 5 cricketers who might never represent India in the ODI format again:
⦁ Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik last made an ODI appearance for India in the 2019 World Cup. Karthik was eventually dropped from India’s ODI squad after a string of poor batting performances. Furthermore, the addition of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul in India’s ODI squad has done Karthik no favors. It is highly unlikely that Karthik will represent India in the ODI format again.
⦁ Ishant Sharma
Indian pace bowler Ishant Sharma last played an ODI match for India in 2016. Even though Sharma is a regular starter in the Test format, he failed to impress with the ball in the ODI format. There is a strong chance that Ishant Sharma might never play another ODI match for India.
⦁ Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane last played an ODI match for India back in 2018. One of the main reasons behind Rahane’s exclusion is his poor strike rate in the ODI format. The 33-year-old has a dismal strike rate of just 78.6 in the ODI format. It is highly likely that Rahane might never represent India in the ODI format again.
⦁ R Ashwin
R Ashwin last featured in an ODI match for India back in 2017. Ashwin has been India’s most successful spinner in the Test format. However, he has failed to replicate a similar performance in the ODI format. Ashwin failed to scalp wickets regularly for India in the limited-overs format. Hence, Ashwin has not appeared for India in an ODI match since 2017. With age not in his favor, R Ashwin might never represent India in the ODI match again.
