India is currently 1-0 down in the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India was obliterated by Australia, who just had 90 runs to chase after the Men-in-Blue were restricted to an abysmally low total of 36. This is the lowest Test total since 1955. Against England in 1955, NZ managed to post only 26 runs in total, registering the lowest Test total ever. The Men in Blue have come under the scrutiny of various former cricketers. Here we list 3 former cricketers who believe that India will lose the Test series 4-0:
Ricky Ponting
Former Australian captain and cricket veteran Ricky Ponting feel that Australia could manage a 4-0 whitewash against India. With Kohli out, Rahane will now marshal the Men in Blue in the remaining Test matches against Australia. Ponting reckons that India’s character will now be put to the test as they will play without Kohli.
To add to their misery, Shami is also out injured for the rest of the series with a fractured forearm. Pointing pointed out that there is no one on the Indian side to pull them out of this misery. Pointing also added that India needs to make changes in the starting lineup. Pant replacing Saha could add some batting firepower to the Indian side.
Sunil Gavaskar
Gavaskar is another cricket veteran who feels that the Aussies might pull off a whitewash against India. Gavaskar stated that India needs to reconsider their starting XI before Boxing Day arrives. With Kohli out due to paternal leave, it will be a huge challenge for India to stand up to the mighty Aussies.
Michael Vaughan
Vaughan stated that if India loses the 2nd Test, then there is definitely no chance of a comeback whatsoever. He felt so because India's main man Virat Kohli will not play the remaining 3 tests. Vaughan stated that India needs to be strong right out of the gate, or else they are bound to succumb.
Moreover, he also felt that Australia had a huge advantage when it came to the pink ball games. Hence, if India wants to win the Border Gavaskar trophy, they need to do something that no one has done.
Michael Clarke
Michael Clarke is also one who feels that India does not stand a chance against the Men in Yellow. With Kohli and Rohit unavailable for the 2nd Test, Clarke feels that India is at a huge disadvantage coming into the 2nd Test. Clarke also feels that India might not manage a comeback if they lose the 2nd Test Match. The 2nd Test is set to start from 26th December in Melbourne.
