The IPL has provided cricketers a platform to showcase their talent in the shortest format of cricket. In some cases, we have seen overseas cricketers cement their spot on the national side after a superb outing in the IPL. However, there are also a few cases in which overseas players have impressed in the IPL but failed to make an impact for their national side in the T20I format.

Here is a list of 4 foreign players who tasted success in the IPL but failed to deliver in the T20I format:

⦁ Mitchell McClenaghan

No. 1 on this list is Mitchell McClenaghan. McClenaghan represented MI for 5 years from IPL 2015 till IPL 2020. McClenaghan is a 3-time IPL winner with MI, who won IPL 2015, 2017, and 2019. In his IPL career, McClenaghan played 56 matches, in which he scalped an impressive 71 wickets in total. However, the New Zealand bowler hasn’t had much success playing for New Zealand in the T20I format. In 29 T20Is, McClenaghan has picked only 30 wickets. Clearly, McClenaghan has seen more success in the IPL than in his T20I international career.

⦁ Dwayne Smith

Dwayne Smith last played a T20I for West Indies in the year 2015. In 32 T20I matches, Smith amassed only 582 runs in his T20I career. However, Smith was a completely different player in the IPL. In 89 innings in his IPL career, Smith amassed 2385 runs with an impressive strike rate of 135.2. Smith also enjoyed success as a part-time bowler, scalping a total of 26 wickets in his IPL career.

⦁ Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh was a complete monster in the inaugural edition of the IPL. Marsh ended the season as the highest run-scorer, amassing 616 runs in just 11 matches. Shaun Marsh is the first player ever to win the orange cap in IPL history. In his IPL career, Marsh has 2477 runs to his name, with a superb batting average of 39.95. However, his T20I statistics aren’t eye-catching. In 15 T20Is, Marsh managed to score only 255 runs, with a mediocre batting average of 18.21. Marsh last played a T20I for Australia back in 2016. It is highly unlikely that he will represent the Aussies in the future.

⦁ Chris Lynn

At no 4 on this list is Australian batsman Chris Lynn. In 42 IPL matches, Lynn amassed a total of 1329 runs with a stellar strike rate of 140.63. However, in the T20I format, Lynn played only 16 innings, amassing just 291 runs with a dismal batting average of 19.40. The Australian last played a T20I back in 2018 and has not made a return since then.
